The massive plant, which will produce a huge amount of greens for the country, is set to open in the New Zealand capital next year.
The plant will produce about 6 billion kilograms of the produce, which is then shipped around the world for the local market.
The New Zealand Greens plan to sell the produce at a premium and use the proceeds to help the struggling farmers and the community.
The project is a huge step forward for New Zealand.
The Greens leader, Jacinda Ardern, said the new plant would make a huge contribution to Kiwi agriculture.
The country’s largest and most productive producer of potatoes is now growing greens in New York.
She said it would help Kiwi farmers by supplying more than 300,000 tonnes of greens a year.
Arderne said the Greens were pleased to have secured the contract for the plant.
“We’ve had lots of great conversations with the New York Green Corporation, with their support we’ve been able to secure the contract,” she said.
The deal was secured through the New Economy Initiative.
Greens leader Jacinda Armfield says New Zealand’s biggest and most successful producer of green produce will be using a $2 billion New York plant to grow its greens.
The Greens leader said the plant was the result of a collaboration between the Greens and the New Deal New York Development Corporation, a partnership that started with a $20 million investment in 2007.
“They really put in the money, it’s just an investment for them to get this project off the ground,” she told 7.30.
New York Greens leader and Greens leader of the New England electorate, David Seymour, said he was happy to hear the Greens plan for the new green factory.
“It’s great to see a company that’s so committed to New Zealand and so passionate about what they’re doing in this country,” he said.
Greenpeace has called for an urgent review of New Zealands environmental policies, including a moratorium on new nuclear power plants.
“It’s time for New York to step up to the plate and take the lead on protecting the environment, particularly the Great Barrier Reef,” Greenpeace said in a statement.
Ardern said she was looking forward to the new factory opening.
“There is no doubt it’s a big project for New England, we’re hoping to see that grow and be a part of the next great New Zealand growth story,” she added.
